At Euphoria 2019, there will be one Friday night Art burn, the Saturday night Effigy burn and the Sunday morning Temple burn.

If you have burned before we ask you to consider burning in a new way, by watching the reflection of the fire in the eyes of the audience for at least one of these happenings. We rely on amazing individuals to remain sober for the duration of the burn, wearing natural fibers, and standing guard around the flames. In return, you have the unique opportunity to watch the awe and wonder on everyone’s faces, sharing the experience with others in a way that can not be described until you have done it. Nothing ignites without a perimeter, so consider practicing Civic Responsibility and Participation by facilitating the major burns for everyone! And who knows, you may get to tackle someone.

The Effigy Perimeter is set in two stages. The Effigy Soft Perimeter is established first and the volunteers for this shift will stand at the perimeter line and keep early arrivals outside the line so that the final Effigy burn-down preparations can be completed in safety. Then, Hard Perimeter volunteers will replace the Soft Perimeter and stand an arm-width apart around the entire perimeter for about 3 hours while the structure burns to prevent any participants from getting too close to the fire.

There is a mandatory meaning to participate in the Effigy burn. It will take place at the Effigy at 6 PM on Saturday.

 
 

Requirements for all Perimeter volunteers

  • You must be able to attend the Perimeter Meeting at 7pm on Saturday, April 30th. This meeting will be for both Effigy (Soft and Hard) and Temple (Hard) Perimeters. Soft Perimeter for Effigy will begin right after this meeting.

  • Please wear cotton clothing and not any synthetic fibers that would melt. It gets hot by the fire!

  • 18 or older

  • Confident you can keep your back to the fire and attention on the crowd

  • Able to stand for about 3 hours. When the fire has burned down enough to allow us to drop the perimeter, you will be the first to know.

  • Comfortable physically blocking individuals from crossing the perimeter line

  • Comfortable with having loud sounds and bright lights behind you

  • Must be sober

Remember, soft perimeter volunteers get to watch the burn and can take a front row seat when your shift ends! You only hold post until the sun sets and hard perimeter is in place. Hard perimeter are the cool guys who don't look back at explosions. If you worked Hard perimeter for Alchemy 2015, please wear your light up swag! 

Want To Lead Burn Perimeter At A Future Burn?

Below are some expectations and requirements of team leads. Do not be scared by all this stuff! We have pretty solid support and resource systems to help you with this, especially if this is your first time leading a team.

Perimeter Team Lead Expectations:

  • Work with the EMS Department Lead and other team to create and conduct all the art burn plans

  • Help manage volunteers at the safety perimeter

  • Attend the on-site Burn Perimeter Safety Meeting 

  • Other duties as assigned by the EMS Department Lead

General Team Lead Expectations:

  • Attend the monthly Team Lead meetings. If you do not live close enough to Atlanta, we require that you have a Co-Lead who can attend. 

  • Submit a budget for the team.

  • Attend build weekend/week if required for your team.

  • Set up a volunteer schedule in coordination with the volunteer coordinator.

  • Attend the daily Team Lead meetings during the event.

  • Assign one person (either a Team Lead or an experienced volunteer) to assist with breaking down the team's infrastructure. This team member must remain onsite until their team's assets have been completely broken down and turned over to Teardown/Public Works.

  • Complete post-event report submitted 3 weeks after the event.

  • Attend Radio training
